Question: I have been invited to a baby shower recently. The soon to be mommy is still several months away from her due date. I know there are going to be a lot of people attending this baby shower. I want to focus a little bit on the mommy. Never having been a mommy myself I really do not know what would be a good maternity gift. I want to get her something that that will make her pregnancy easier and perhaps that much more special. There are endless lists for baby shower gifts but maternity gifts seem to be harder to find. Can anyone help me?

Reply: You are so right. There are so few options when trying to find maternity gifts. I am reminded of an I Love Lucy episode. Lucy is expecting and she feels that Ricky only cares about the baby and just views Lucy as an oven for their baby. It doesn’t help that every time he comes homes and tells Lucy that he has a gift for her that it is actually for the baby and not her. She feels ignored and depressed. Finally Ricky gets a clue and does something special for just Lucy. And it makes all the difference in the world. I think it is fantastic that you also took the time to think of the mommy as well. The truth is any maternity gift geared towards the mommy alone is nice gesture. Why not try getting her maternity gifts that will make her feel beautiful? So many mommies complain that they feel unattractive during pregnancy. There are different kinds of maternity clothing stores out here that can make a mommy into a yummy mommy. Just because you are pregnant does not mean you have to resort to baggy shirts, sweaters and sweat pants. Pregnancy does not mean that you cannot look nice. You should think about getting the maternity gifts that will allow the mommy go out and sparkle the way that she deserves. I hope this helps with your dilemma.

It shows that you put in the time into it rather than picking something up at the store right before the baby shower. I love to make maternity gift baskets. Maternity gift baskets make it possible for you to put together everything you want to give to a soon to be mommy. Some baby items you may want to add to your maternity gift basket are cocoa butter, Stretchy cute shirts for mommy, soothing lavender lotions and perfumes, journal, comfortable shoes and a gift card. You could also line the basket with diapers and/or breast pads. It may seem like a funny idea now, but she will be thanking you later. The maternity gift baskets can be filled with goodies for both the mommy and the baby. What I love most about this idea is that you can make it as simple or extravagant as you like. This idea makes it easy to remain in a certain budget if you are at all worried about price. You can find a basket at any arts and crafts store. I hope you love this as much as I do.

Reply: I had a friend just like you. She wanted to get me something that is just for me while I was pregnant. She got me the best thing ever. The first maternity gift she got me this spa treatment which had lotions and bath oils so I can enjoy myself. However nestled inside the bath oils was a certificate to a day spa. The day spa included a body massage, facial, manicure, pedicure and lunch. I had never gone to a day spa before and it was just so relaxing. I had never before and I could not think of a better time of going then when I pregnant.  I know that a day spa can get a little pricey but it is very easy to find alternatives.  If you love the idea of spa then you could always treat them to a manicure and pedicure alongside a maternity gift basket filled with lotion, candles and massage oils. Or you can make a maternity gift basket filled with spa foamed slippers, sponges, candles, bubble bath, body wash and lotion. You cold even thrown in a robe if you like. This idea really put a smile on my face and made me feel so special. Those bath oils made every feel so wonderful and luxurious. I am sure it will have the same effect on any mommy.
