You have just heard the wonderful news that your sister has just given birth to a healthy newborn. You are on the way to the hospital and you realize that you are empty handed. You have already attended the baby shower and given a beautiful gift but you still want to get something for the baby now. So what do you get?

Newborn gifts are actually easy to get. It is not required that you get something huge. Many people stress out because they do not know what to get and do not feel right going to see the new mommy and new baby without any kind of newborn gift.

If you want to get something small and nice for the mom, you could always give flowers or balloons. You may think that this is a silly newborn gift but it does make a difference. The mom has just given birth and will have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days before she can leave. Why not get her reminders of how much she is loved. Not only that but we have to consider all the hard ships the new mom had before the newborn was even born. After giving birth to a newborn, everyone wants to take a picture of the new mom and the newborn. Obviously after going so many hours of labor, the new mom is not going to look her best. You could first see the baby for yourself and determine the size of the newborn and then get an appropriate newborn gift that will fit the newborn. If you get the perfect clothing for the newborn, the newborn may wear that newborn gift when it finally leaves the hospital. Matching one-piece, booties, hat and mittens may be the perfect newborn gift.

If you do not mind spending a little bit of money, you could always take this opportunity to get something that the mother and baby needed or wanted but never received. This kind of newborn gift can range between car seats, additional bibs, blankets just about anything.  If you want to get something that they really want or need you should ask both parents. The mother may be too tired to think about what she is missing or maybe the other parent had just ran out and bought additional newborn items. You want to make sure that to do not duplicate bigger items that parents’ really only need one of.

You could always do something very simple and just ask what the new mommy wants to eat. Hospital food is not very appetizing. If the new mommy’s favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip with sprinkles, then you could always bring that to the hospital so the new mommy can snack on something good besides gelatin. This is really easy thing to do. You could even call the new mommy up and ask her a head of time what is wants to eat and pick it up for her on the way to the hospital. The new mommy will definitely enjoy this treat.
